Today we continued the Lipchis canal series, previously we got up to #9 (video) we even included two co-ordinates caches which would be our first! Lewis parked up nearest to #10 as possible, just before #7. There were a few muggles around today and also a few other fellow cachers. We crossed paths with two couples but only one seemed to be writing in the log.
This was our first co-ordinates cache and was a lot easier to do (both physically and on the GPS) than I thought it would be. I quite enjoyed the extra involvement it needed to find the cache and luckily we were successful with the co-ordinates, although the cache wasn't very well hidden and was quite obvious to the eye walking past.
Traditional cache that again we saw from the path way, mainly because someone didn't re-hide it very well. Clearly see the rock is supposed to go on top but lazy people, ya'know?
Again, someone didn't really re-hide this well. There were four sticks that were clearly there to lay over the top of the box but it seemed the previous people, who weren't even writing in the log, didn't re-hide the boxes. Nice and snug in a little tree though.
Lipchis Canal Wander #14 -
Had to cross the road to reach the Marina where the next cache could be found. Right by the road, close enough you'd look very suspicious to drivers by but because it's a fast road they can't slow down to watch! This was a magnetic cache, can you see it?
Along the road heading into the Marina is the main Marina sign, where this next cache was cleverly hidden. Slotted into the sign, perfect fit!
This was very easy, mainly because there aren't many hiding spots along the road but this was slotted into a tree's bowl. This one had some random junk in that I'm not really sure why someone would put it in, the plastic orange (doll house shelf?) took up a lot of room and made fitting the log in harder. Chunky plastic in small containers lead to leaking and thus why some logs get damp..
Between two hard places was the clue for this one, the co-ordinates were a little bit off on our GPS and we did walk past. Lewis was the one who went back to discover this one.
Had a lot of items in, some were fun and we nearly lost the poor little frog in the river. Luckily I didn't attempt the bouncy ball.. This is more of a fun filled cache unlike the previous one!
This one had a much larger gap in between, I believe it was about 535m, one end of the Marina to the other. This was super easy to see, even to passers by they must look at it. Maybe they just think it's a random bottle of junk/rubbish that's floated in from the Harbour. It's been attached to the tree so I'm assuming muggles have removed this before!
Lipchis Canal Wander #19 -
We had more trouble finding this cache because there was so much ivy inside that it was hard to find the camo box. All the previous caches were so easy to see by eye but this was harder. It also had the main bridge walkway above so people kept walking over while we looked like trolls under the bridge!
The last cache in the series, a co-ordinates cache to end. The answers to the questions were on this board (like the others in this series) as well as a memorial plaque (rock/boulder?) The rock was next to were a swan was grooming itself, usually where the swan builds it's nest. Lewis didn't really care which made me laugh because he couldn't see the swan puffing out and raising it's head at him from behind.
The cache itself was hung in a tree, similar to one in the first part of the series.
We walked back to the car with a total distance of 6.66km walked (oo-er), which is 4.1 miles. It took us an hour and a half in walking time with an additonal 54 minutes stopping time. So overall took us 2 and a half hours, if we'd done both halves together we would have probably been twice as long! It was a nice walk and a nice day, some of the caches weren't very hard to find and the sizes were perfect. Overall a good informative walk, with some easy finds! TFTC.
