The River Run at Arundel - Geocache

Heading over to Arundel to build up some caches again, doing the series that runs round the Arundel. We thought it would be nice to do as it was also the day of  Arundel by Candlelight. So we thought we'd do the series in reverse and end up in the town to see the Christmas market and when returning to the car, retrieve the rest. I shall be posting the caches in the order that we did them to save myself getting confused!

The River Arun at Arundel Amble #9 - Home Run 1

The first cache is located at a bridge running over the river, it's a nice spot to start a walk! I actually keep forgetting to take pictures of the actual place we visit which is pretty silly as it's so nice to visit. 

The River Arun at Arundel Amble #8 - Tributary

We couldn't find this cache at all, the co-ordinates are off and tells you it's in a field that you can't get into. After reading comments people agree they're off and to back track. We searched the whole path and every tree with no luck at all. Quite disappointing!

This cache is very easy to find, it's so obvious in fact that I have no idea how it's stayed hidden. Just shows people don't really pay attention to their surroundings!

Lewis openly admitted he likes seeing his face on my blog, how vain is that? ;)

The hint for this cache states that it can be found opposite the red sign on the other side of the river, we definelly, couldn't see a red sign but it was easy enough to find with a huge piece of expanded foam and a pen sticking out. saying "Take this pen"...

Unfortunately it appeared this cache has been taken or lost. The location was easy to spot but alas the cache was no where in sight, with other previous people agreeing we moved on and have tagged this cache for maintenance.

Although we didn't take the short cut we didn't want to leave one out of the series, this seemed like the most visited log book even though its completely of the course! 

It was a shame that two of the caches couldn't be found as it means we have an incomplete series which bothers me! I don't like looking at the map and seeing an unfinished series of smiley faces! Although there are still more caches to be found around Arundel so we'd be visiting again in the future and hopefully they'll be fixed by then! The series is estimated to take an hour (not sure if that includes the halfway) I didn't track the time as we went into Arundel as well. It definitely a nice walk and an easy series of caches. Hopefully it gets fixed up so that others can enjoy it!

Wear The Fox Hat - Geocache

Took another trip with Kashpop today in Patching, Arundel. We've done a few in Arundel before but today we did a few of the Wear the Fox Hat series which has 100 caches. (We didn't do 100..) We also picked up a few of 'The Worlds End' series. 

Village Inns - Angmering #3

The first cache we found on the trip, it's located near The Fox pub which at the time we arrived had a wedding party! Not that we joined in but a few members of the trip were pretty tempted. The first cache I found without the hint and I suppose I spoiled it for everyone else as I just automatically home in on obvious cache locations. It's becoming a repeated phrase in the group of "No..,You did not find it, no.." I try and hold back after a few as it I probably make it boring!

In this cache we found a trackable to add to our collection, little Ladybug! Well I say little he was actually quite big so finding another cache to squeeze him into will be fun.

01 - Wear the Fox Hat

This is a sneaky clever cache hide, it's hidden within a log! Although I'm not really sure why it's hidden among another pile of logs as it makes the area look slightly suspicious. 

02 - Wear the Fox Hat

 This one took a little longer to find because we were searching more clever hides, testing if the bolts were loose etc. Karen asked me to feel inside under the gate as she was scared there'd be a spider. I felt the plastic tie around the case and pulled it out! 

03 - Wear the Fox Hat

 The hint for this cache was that it could be found under a brick at the end of the wall. There were a lot of bricks by the end of the wall.. There was even a big slab that revealed a small hole which would have made a great cache spot. The actual cache wasn't really at the end of the wall but we found it after turning most of the bricks!

04 - Wear the Fox Hat

It suddenly turned dark as we entered the woods, luckily Paul had equipped us with torches. This cache was hard to get out as the wire it was attached too had broken off. Hollie tried to put her hand in to reach it but was worried she'd get her hand stuck. I know I have quite small wrists and thin hands so I tried and luckily reached the cache and got my hand out. It had been placed quite far down inside the pole so I placed it back for easy access.

05 - Wear the Fox Hat

The hint for this cache was a moss covered stump. Finding a moss covered stump in the dark is not particularity easy. It involved staring at the floor and covering ground hoping we'd find a stump. Once found the log was very wet and not writable (despite the nice weather recently.) 

06 - Wear the Fox Hat

 Another cache that was harder in the dark, having to research stumps. Although it was easy to spot the flint in the dark, it had to be hiding something! At this point Hollie started bringing up Slender and I think she even started to scare herself at her surroundings. Seeing odd lights in the distance started to worry some of us and Paul was just getting fed up we were being silly and not looking for the cache, it was all quite funny.

Patching

Another clever cache that was VERY difficult in the dark. It was off co-ordinates and difficult to get too from the field we were in as we had to fight bushes. Luckily I did find it and at the time it had a trackable inside. I didn't take it as we already picked one up but I regret not taking it now as I kind of want to be a trackable hoarder... 

The Worlds End - Oasis

 Circling back down a footpath towards the pub we found The Worlds End series, this cache is called Oasis and ironically it was soaked and full of icky water. The Worlds End series actually loops to the pub nearby called The Worlds End which just reminds me of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's movie. 

The Worlds End - Tree

 Look up! Clever hide, had us searching around the base of the tree until we read the hint. 

There was another Worlds End cache but we couldn't seem to find it, perhaps because it was dark or just the fact it was quite late and we were all tired. Maybe we can go finish the Worlds End series at some point. I'd definetely like to attempt to finish the Wear the Fox Hat series and say that I found a 100 series cache! We walked about 2.1 miles for around 2 hours. It was our first night cache in the woods and was quite fun with the torches!

Various Caches, Burpham - Geocaches

We traveled to Burpham, Arundel along with my mum and partners dad and step-mum. My partner's family introduced us to Geocaching so we've done a few treks with them! They go by the name Kashpop so this would be our first time writing down two names in the logs. Kashpop planned the caches and I took a trackable along in hopes to get rid and move on. (Unsuccessful as the caches were too small.) The caches are a variety of shapes and included co-ordinate caches and traditional, there are some part of a series and some random one offs. The caches we did travel along different types of terrain including some steep, gradual and flat terrain. 

Burpham - Jacobs Ladder

This cache was an easy find, if you looked under the right post. It was quite easy to see from the footpath. The log in this cache was inside an old film pot which was then inside a slightly larger container, making it extra dry! 

Walking along the footpath we discovered at the top of the cliff/hill there was what appeared to be, a cave! Running up was the only way but half way up you needed to grab on to the fallen tree otherwise you'd loose momentum and fall back down!

 Lewis was hoping there'd be something he could take from the cave like a skull or some bones.. sadly for him, there wasn't. Little Poppy made the climb of the hill look like a breeze as she didn't struggle to chase after us. 

Lewis on the other hand made sure to take all of the safe ways down.. very slowly. Whereas I just slid down! On to the next cache!

Burpham - Fateful Farrier

 Another cache that took finding the right tree and post to find the cache. 

Burpham Link - Toxic

This cache could be seen from a distance, you could see the pile of rocks that were suspiciously stacked for the trained Geocachers eye's. 

 It suddenly became a race between Bumble Bean and Kashpop..

Which didn't really matter who won because I had the pen!

 This cache was described as a joke of being in a series of Sewage farms, although stated it was a joke I was not convinced as it smelt bad. I had to take the cache away from the smell, anyone who knows me well knows I'm not good at handling bad strong smells. Ironically the cache is called Toxic and the container is an old Toxic Waste sweet pot. I'm really not convinced the sewage farm was a joke. 

Despite the cave being an unsuccessful bone find for Lewis, this cache was not. Almost as if it was carefully placed next to the cache for Lewis to find was a bird skull. We think it's a crow but Lewis is going to take it into his University to be identified for collections. 

Burpham Link - Help! My House Is Falling Down

A very interestingly placed cache, I'm unsure of the history of the fallen down house but you can clearly see where a fireplace once was and even the beams are still holding up. The cache isn't inside the house but you can't resist going in!

My mother was pretty determined to find the cache as she has yet to find one while out with us, we were all struggling to look for it until she dug her hand into a tree covered in ivy and pulled out the cache with a very proud look on her face. The cache was nicely hidden and slightly tougher to find as you didn't expect it to be strapped to the tree.

Burpham Link - A Salt Near Peppering Farm

An easy spot at the end of a footpath, the metal looked too suspicious to me! An interesting container for the log to be hidden inside. Wonder where the pepper pot is? Hope it isn't missing it's salt companion too much. 

Church Micro 4282…Burpham

A co-ordinates cache that required working out some answers after locating the correct headstone. The co-ordinates lead you out of the church yard and to some telegraph poles, the cache is quite hard to spot as you'd assume it was part of the wire. It was also, for some reason, open to wind and rain, there didn't seem to be a lid or container to screw the pot into so the log was slightly delicate. 

Burpham – School’s Out

Placed on a red telephone box, a very hard to spot cache. I couldn't even see it and was convinced it wasn't there as I assumed that what I was looking at was a bolt or part of the box. Very cleverly camouflaged! Of course I went inside, it's very hard not too even if I am British.  

A Fine Pair # 14 ~ Burpham 

Last cache we did today, a co-ordinates cache that lead us back along the path we just came. Sitting behind a sign was a little pot. Nice and easy! 

We ended up walking 2.7 miles which isn't as much as previous cache hunts but the change in terrain made the pace slower. Kashpop's GPS didn't tell us how long we'd been walking for but it was around 2 and a half hours. It was a nice walk and we did complete one series among random caches. Me and Lewis will possibly head back one day to complete some other series that we started or maybe even start a new one!
